Atherton Tablelands and finally… Cairns!

On Tuesday 24th October, we set off to see the Crater Lakes but got distracted by a signpost for the Curtain Fig Tree.

Back on track and after a quick stop in Yungaburra we made it to Lake Eacham,

and after a little detour to Lake Barrine, where you can enjoy a rainforest cruise or Devonshire Teas at the teahouse. 😉

Lake Barrine is something special as it is actually a water filled crater left by a volcanic eruption approximately 10,000 years ago. Then we drove to the Cathedral Fig Tree

and from there to Mobo Creek, were Emma twisted her ankle and gashed her knee. Luckily it wasn’t too dramatic and now at least our first aid kits came in handy.

Around 3 pm we finally arrived at Cairns Villa & Caravan Park, which sounds rather grand but actually looks a bit dodgy with quite a few permanent residents… We decided to do the Mangrove Walk nearby but unfortunately it was closed so we went straight on to the Cairns Esplanade & Lagoon.

It is basically an outdoor swimming pool with “lifeguard on duty” signposted even in German. 😉

For the last time we went to an Australian supermarket together, cooked and did our laundry.
